Hamster sand bath for dwarf hamsters and other small pet rodents

By nature, hamsters and many other small rodents are very clean creatures. However, there is very little water in the natural habitats of most of them. For this reason, many of the little critters have developed a strategy for keeping clean which doesn’t require any water: they bathe in dust or very fine sand. Not only does this clean their coats more efficiently than water ever could, but the sand can also be shaken off very easily. This way, Hammy and friends do not need to shiver as they dry – they leave their baths already dry.

In order to satisfy our little friends’ desire for cleanliness, a sand bath should be available freely or should at least be offered at regular intervals. While a plain bowl can technically serve as a sand bath, a lot of the light sand will get thrown over the rim of an ordinary bowl during a sand bathing ritual. To minimise the loss of bathing sand, Rodipet® developed the Luxury Sandbath: The inward curving walls and the semi roof keep as much sand as possible inside the bowl. And since the curved semi roof makes Hammy and friends feel quite sheltered, you may get more opportunities to watch your little charge bathe.

By the way, to make cleaning easier, the inside of the bathing bowl is glazed, whereas the outside is unglazed so that your pet finds firm footholds and even gets a gentle pedicure when climbing over it. The Luxury Sandbath can easily be cleaned either in the dishwasher or by hand.
